Featured Breed: Finnsheep

Finnsheep are the featured breed for 2016. Visit the Finsheep Showcase Tent to find out more about this high-performing, versatile breed. There will be a Finnsheep sheep show on Saturday afternoon in the Show Ring and special Finnsheep classes in the Fleece Show & Sale.

National and Regional Sheep Shows

The sheep show ring will be hosting the National Bluefaced Leicester Show and ARBA Regional Romney Show.

All Breeds Sheep Sale

Our Ewe Sale has grown into an All Breeds Sheep Sale and will now include rams and ram lambs. The sale has moved to Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Sale animals can be seen in the pre-sale show on Friday at 7:00 p.m., as well as in their pens throughout the day on Saturday.

Festival Farm Market Returns

Our Festival Farm Market near the main gate returns this year, featuring local pasture raised lamb cuts and other edible goodies. This year we are adding entertainment, and cooking demonstrations, too! Don’t forget to shop for our original American lamb, honey and cheese products (both sheep’s milk and goat’s milk) located in the Home Arts Building. Bring your cooler!

Free Lamb Tasting Event

The Frederick County Sheep Breeders Association,with support from the American Lamb Board, will be hosting a Lamb Tasting Stand on the south side of Midway Blvd, outside of Barns 5 and 6, from 10-1 each day. Here you can try some  lamb sausage and sweet & sour lamb meatballs made from farm-fresh, Frederick County lamb. You can also pick up lamb recipes and information on lamb cuts and nutritional benefits, plus special goodies just for children. They will also have $1.00 off coupons good for American Lamb sandwiches at participating vendors.

New Knit-Along for Charity

We are pleased to announce our first-ever Knit-Along for charity, which we hope will become an annual event. This year’s Knit-Along is being hosted by the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative.

Youth Conservationist Program 20th Anniversary

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Youth Conservationist Program. That’s a lot of registered ewes finding new homes with aspiring young shepherds. Many thanks to all of the donors over the years!

Changes for Fleece Show & Sale

The Fleece Show & Sale will no longer accept late entries. All entries must be pre-registered and entry forms RECEIVED by NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27, 2016.

Auction Changes

The Shepherds Auction will no longer accept books and magazines. The auction committee asks that you be selective in choosing your items for sale. No junk or yard sale items will be accepted.

Entry fees eliminated for certain competitions

Entry fees have been eliminated for the Fine Arts Competition, Sheep Photo Contest, and Skein & Garment Competition.

2016 Catalog Cover Art Competition Winner

Congratulations to 2016 Cover Art Competition Winner Maria Victoria Savka of Pittsford, NY. Honorable mentions went to Mary Jeanne Coles of Union Bridge MD, Nathan Loda of Vienna VA, Jamison Odone of LaVale MD, and Debbie Lynn Zwiebach of Pasadena MD.
