Maryland Grand Lamb Cook-Off

It’s true! No ranges this year. Show us your simmered, sautéed or grilled dishes. Be creative!



Enter your favorite lamb recipe in the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival’s Twenty-fifth Annual Maryland Grand Lamb Cook-Off.


Rules:

  1. A minimum of 1 lb. of any cut of American lamb must be used.

  2. All entries will be judged on flavor (40 points), appearance (20 points), originality (30 points) and ease of preparation (10 points).

  3. Prior to the Cook-Off, up to ten finalists will be selected from the entries. Junior entrants, under the age of 16, are encouraged to enter, and will be judged in their own class.

  4. The finalists will be invited to prepare their recipes for the judges at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival on Sunday, May 4, 2008.

  5. Each finalist will be provided with an 110 volt electric outlet and table space. Finalists must furnish their own grills, microwaves or other necessary cooking equipment, utensils and serving materials to present their entries to the judges. No ovens or ranges will be provided.
  6. Cooking may commence at 11AM and the final product must be delivered to the judges no later than 2 PM.

  7. Each finalist will provide table settings for two judges.

  8. No beverages will be allowed. Ice water will be provided for the judges.

  9. Serving sizes will be one-fourth the normal serving portion.

  10. Entries must be postmarked no later than April  5, 2008. Copies may be submitted electronically but the official entry must be made by US mail to the address below.

  11. Please note! There will be no separate Jr. cookoff this year (2008.) Children and teens who submit recipes will be in the cook-off on Sunday and judged against one another in their own class.


Cash prizes will be awarded:

 

First Place $150.00

Second Place $125.00

Third Place $100.00

Fourth Place $75.00

Fifth Place $50.00

All finalists will receive prizes provided by the Maryland Sheep Breeders Association.

How to Enter:


1. Type or print your recipe on an 8 1/2” x 11” sheet of paper.

2. List all ingredients in order used, no brand names.

3. List preparation and cooking instructions.

4. Provide your name, address, home phone, work phone, email address and the name of your recipe.

5. Mail entries by April 5, 2008 to the address below.
