JS50 Keeping Parasites at Bay with Dr. Andrea Loar, DVM

Most producers are familiar with the FAMACHA system of parasite detection, but more recently, the 5 Point Check has been developed which helps to detect a wider variety of parasites. In this presentation, Dr. Loar will discuss elevating your parasite control regimen to the next level using the 5 Point Check, as well as strategic deworming and fecal egg counts.

JS50 Class Fee: $20.

Dr. Andrea Loar, DVM, grew up raising market lambs in the Howard County 4-H program. After working in the veterinary field for many years as a Registered Veterinary Technician, she returned to school and graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Dr. Loar is the owner of Windy’s Legacy Livestock Reproduction Services, a practice specializing in food animal and small ruminant reproduction and neonatal care. She also works for the Mountain View Animal Emergency Clinic in Hagerstown, MD.

Thank you!

Another Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival has come and gone, and we could not have done without all of you – Festival goers, volunteers, Festival Committee members, shepherds, and participants in so many activities, competitions and demonstrations! It is amazing to see this come together with all categories of participants contributing to its success. We tried some new things this year, and had a little bad weather to deal with, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding, support, and good cheer. Thanks to everyone for participating in our 44th celebration of all things sheep & wool! We are already thinking about how to do even better next year!

In Peace,

Gwen Handler, Chairman, Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival

Lee Langstaff, President, Maryland Sheep Breeders Association
