Knit-Along for Charity
We are pleased to announce that the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative is returning to host our second annual Knit-Along for Charity. You are invited to become a Knitwit for Nelson Mandela!
The 67 Blankets South African charity currently holds the Guinness World Records for the Largest Hand Knitted AND Largest Crochet Blankets in the world. Here in the U.S., they continue to grow, and set a goal of 670 blankets for 2016, which they achieved.
According to 67 Blankets, “Mandela said ‘It’s in your hands now’ and we have taken that to heart. We have so many people who have come together to do good for our local community. Each and every square we receive counts. Our blankets are donated with love to local charities and groups who serve those in our community most in need of warmth and comfort. Blankets have been donated to Central Union Mission DC, Homeless Children’s Playtime Project, GrassRoots Crisis Intervention, Baltimore Station and Healthcare for the Homeless in Baltimore. Our project is ongoing! There are never enough blankets to share with community in need. Please help us to spread the word within your own community, at church, schools, family & friends. We thank you for your ongoing support of this amazing project.”
Bring your needles, bring your yarn, and come and enjoy the fellowship of other knitters as you contribute to a worthy cause. Crocheters are welcome too! This will be a good way to sit down and relax after a full day at the Festival.
If you are coming to the Festival but can’t attend the Knit-Along, you are invited to either make a blanket or contribute squares to be made into blankets. Collection boxes will be set up in the Columbia Sip ‘n Knit Hospitality Tent just inside the main gate, the Information Tent, the Bingo Hall, and at the Saturday night Spin-In. Yarn donations in the boxes will also be welcomed.
