Shepherd Seminar – Coating Sheep for Fleece Quality with Lee Langstaff

Year-round coating of sheep is an increasingly popular option for those wishing to optimize desirable fleece qualities.  This presentation and discussion will illuminate the potential advantages and disadvantages, costs, potential pitfalls and the range of management issues involved.  Lee Langstaff (Shepherd’s Hey Farm) will share her 15 years of experience coating sheep for prized fleeces, highlighting the practical whys and hows of coating sheep year-round.  This presentation is for wool producers looking to optimize income from fleeces, or to produce beautiful wool for their own use, or for those wanting to know what to expect and/or look for when evaluating a coated fleece for purchase.

Presentation and discussion up to 90 minutes. No limit on number of participants. Suggested donation $5.00.

Dedicated producer of natural-colored handspinning wool fleeces, Lee Langstaff is Co-Chair of the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival Fleece Show & Sale and managing shepherd of Shepherd’s Hey Farm in Comus, Maryland.  She is also the former President of Maryland Sheep Breeders Association.  She has been breeding and managing her flock specifically for handspinning fleeces in a full range of natural colors for nearly 20 years. Her fleeces have been consistently well received by judges as well as fiber artists.  

This seminar will be conducted via Zoom and is being hosted on Enroll here. You can enroll up to 30 minutes before the start of the seminar. Enrolled students will receive an immediate email confirmation of enrollment, and on the day before the seminar, a reminder with Zoom link to join the class via email. Students will also be able to join the Zoom sessions from their Lessonface dashboard. Students can connect to Zoom using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. To actively participate online students also need a webcam with microphone. Registrants may participate live on Tuesday, April 27th at 7pm, or watch the recorded session anytime within 30 days (must have registered in order to view recording).


Proposals for 2022 Fiber Arts Seminars now being accepted

We are now accepting proposals for fiber arts seminars to be held in conjunction with the 49th Annual Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, which will take place in person on May 7 & 8, 2022 in West Friendship, Maryland. Many seminars will be held Wednesday-Friday of the week leading up to the festival; all seminars will be held in person. The Fiber Arts Seminar Committee invites instructors from every heritage, culture, belief system, and lifestyle to submit a proposal.
