Free Shepherd Seminar – Introduction to Animal Welfare for Sheep and Goats with Wendy Weirich, DVM

Good welfare is important to the health and productivity of sheep and goats. This presentation will provide an introduction to the science of animal welfare including the Five Freedoms and the Five Domains. We will discuss some examples for sheep and goats. There will be a brief overview of some available certification programs and the benefits of promoting animal welfare for your business and yourself.

Dr. Wendy Weirich is an animal welfare consultant. In this role, she interprets the latest animal welfare science and develops practical applications that farmers can employ on their farms to ensure high welfare for their animals and help to meet the expectations of their customers. Wendy has also worked for 15 years as an independent auditor for several farm animal welfare certification programs.
