Sheep

Yes, we have sheep!

Come sit in the show ring and watch the Sheep Show judging while over seventeen breeds of sheep are judged to determine the Champion and Reserve Champion in each breed. Afterwards, stroll through the sheep barns and meet the sheep and the shepherds up close and personal. Come back to the show ring on Sunday afternoon to see who wins the overall Supreme Champion and Supreme Fleece awards.

Visit the Sheep Breeds Display in Barn 7-8 for a rare opportunity to view over thirty different breeds of sheep in one place. Breeders will explain in their presentations the characteristics of the breed, advantages and disadvantages of the breed, and other pertinent information.

On Sunday, stop by the show ring at 12:30 for the unique Parade of Sheep Breeds, that will include many rare and exotic breeds. Later in the afternoon, watch the Lead Line Contest in Barn 7-8 where a competitor leads a young sheep around the ring while wearing an outfit made from wool, either sewn, knitted, or crocheted.

You can find even more sheep at the Sheep-to-Shawl Contest, Sheep Shearing Demonstrations, and Working Sheepdog Demonstrations.

No need to count sheep to fall asleep when you get home!

The Maryland Make it With Wool program relies on its sale of Wool Wax Creme at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival to fund their activities. Since the festival was cancelled, they are selling the products by email this year. The post below shows the products available with instructions on how to order.

MIWW is an annual youth-centered sewing and needle work competition designed to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics, yarns, and fibers. Preliminary competitions are held at the state level, culminating in the National Finals and Awards Banquet at the American Sheep Industry annual convention.

Please help keep Maryland youth sewing by ordering your wool wax creme today (plus it's a really great product, too).
