My daughter Chelsea (Cottontail Farm) & I will be collaborating to offer a project bag with matching skein set. And I will have a colorway dyed specially for MDSW in both Blue Face Leicester Sport weight and a Yak-Merino sock yarn.
About Us
Twelve years ago my search for a farm led me to the mountains of SW Virginia. Finally one spoke to me & now in a holler, on a dirt road, CVM, Romney, Finn, Jacob & Leicester Longwool sheep reside here with me along with my Hereford sow, Mini Jersey cow & chickens. It is a dream come true, a labor of love to make it what it has become. A good life, one who many would say is going back in time. I am lucky to be here. There’s so much more to do.
Two years ago the Livestock Conservancy started their program “Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em (SE2SE), an effort to raise awareness of rare, endangered breeds of sheep. It has changed the world for many American shepherds. Thru their site & FB page fiber lovers have the chance to connect & learn about breeds they had never heard of. It has given us shepherds who raise conservation breeds of sheep, a way to market our wool. I am involved in that program as a fiber provider.
My daughter Chelsea, (Cottontail Farm) & I do fiber festivals together. She is a project bag & tool maker, so between the two of us, we have everything you need !! I am so lucky too, to share this fiber life with her. She & I are busy collaborating on a special bag & skein set for MDSW !
What I offer for sale is from my sheep & from fiber I gather from other small American farms like mine. Small farms are being lost & need to be saved. In my small way, I am trying to preserve what I can.
I love to dye, it is my favorite thing. It’s like being a mad scientist & has become a bit of an obsession. All my fiber & yarn is kettle dyed or handpainted by me. My emphasis is & always will be different breeds of American farm sheep, but I do offer some Merino blends. New this year are my “Sockinettes”. Sock tube kits, that I crank on my CSM w/matching mini skeins to make a pair of socks.
I hope you enjoy this weekend & I hope that next year we all can be together. Thank you MDSW for giving us this opportunity, & to all who visit us here…Thank You !
Take Care

About Us
Greenwood Hill Farm is a family owned Merino Sheep Farm in rural Hubbardston Massachusetts. Tom and Andrea Colyer started their yarn business using the wool from their white and natural colored Merino sheep to create 4 natural colors (white, silver, slate and chocolate), and 2 weights (DK and Worsted) of yarn. Andrea has designed over 20 patterns and also sells Green Mountain Spinnery and Yankee Knitter patterns. Also for sale is combed top in white and natural colors which is the choice of discriminating spinners and felters. Unicorn fiber washing products, Wool Wax Cream and Greenwood Hill Farm kits are all available in the shop on the farm and on our website at greenwood hill farm.com.
A sample card of our yarn is available by calling the farm at (978) 928-5175 or e-mail . Send your mailing address and we will get one in the mail to you. We feel you can’t appreciate our 100% Merino Yarn unless you feel and see it.
