About Us

The focus of JRW Creations is handmade one-of-a-kind clothing & accessories featuring timeless designs, quality materials & detailed workmanship.

Sewing is my passion. It began at age nine when I made my first apron. From the beginning, I’ve loved transforming fabrics, trims and threads into wearable garments, accessories and furnishings. Sewing and the study of textiles, became the focus of 3 college degrees and my professional career with University of Maryland Extension. For 31 years, I taught the selection, use, care and construction of clothing and home furnishings to youth and adults in a non-formal education setting throughout Maryland.

Today, in my retirement, I continue my love of sewing with a custom sewing business and volunteer projects related to sewing. Much of my work is with wooI fabrics & fibers. Using wool sweaters and garments, I push the envelope, doing all those things that I once cautioned against – washing in hot water with agitation and soap, drying in a hot dryer – creating new fabrics with a myriad of textures. Blending colors, textures, fibers, trims and machine stitches for the unique, one-of-a-kind jacket, vest, hat, mittens, scarf… One pair of mittens is made with felted fabric pieces from 8 different sweaters. Wearable art jackets are created from new wool Melton yardage.

I also design & sew project bags, totes, wristlets, crossbody and multiple use bags from home dec fabrics & trims, some quilter’s cotton & repurposed wool garments. Light colored linings make it easier to find items that have dropped to the bottom; interfacings & interlinings add stability and durability. Zipper, magnetic snaps or drawstring closures are used.

Jeans jackets for children are embellished with quilt shop fabrics, ribbons and other trims are very popular.

I find great satisfaction creating beautiful things in my studio at Contentment Farm where Boer goats and miniature donkeys also live. Email, message or phone me if you have questions about listed items, custom orders, etc.

Note:
For the past 20/ 25 years, as director of The Maryland Make It with Wool education and sewing competition program, I have worked with our youth participants and adult volunteers to sell Wool Wax hand creme, provide a class for a wool craft and a fashion show featuring the wool garments created by our MIWW participants. As in 2020, our efforts will continue virtually this year. Watch the MIWW Virtual Fashion Show video, and look for Maryland Make It with Wool in the 2021 Vendor listing or go to my-site-104575-105041.square.site to place your order. You can also email: to purchase the Creme and information will also be included on Facebook. Your hands and our participants will be happy you did!!

About Us

As a child, I did a lot of number paintings, but I never followed the lines, and embroidery kits, but I never read the instructions. When it came time for college, I believed I must put away childish things and study something serious. After pursuing several scientific degrees, I rediscovered fiber as an art form.

I work both flat and sculpturally, using wool, yarns, threads and beads to create wall art, jewelry, wearable accessories and 3D forms. Most of my work has a stitched construction, either worked onto a fabric backing such as hand and machine stitchery or as a construction technique of its own. Like needle lace, needle weaving, felting and beadwork. Color is a consistent focus of my work, particularly the graduation or shading of one color or pattern into another. Color transitions are employed both for pure visual pleasure and as symbols for the expression of larger themes.

I have felted and/or stitched wall art, knitted and fulled hats, knitted headbands (with pockets), felted and beadwork jewelry, as well as beadwork art forms.

About Us

Jill Draper Makes Stuff is a truly handmade company. Each yarn is designed by Jill & spun exclusively for JDMS. Jill works with all domestic farms & mills to create breed specific yarns, made sheep to skein in the US, most of which are then hand dyed in her studio in upstate NY.

Each yarn in the JDMS line is designed to highlight the attributes of the fiber used & to make a long lasting & hard wearing yarn. You will find a large variety of wool types from toothy Cheviot in Valkill to the Superfine Merino in Ansel.

This year we are proud to share the first of hopefully many finished products. Shawls & blankets woven by hand from JDMS yarns. Jill worked with a weaver in CT to create these beautiful fabric piecers that use a mix of hand dyed & dyed in the wool yarn.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in 2022!

If you or anyone else receives an email claiming to be able to sell you a list of attendees of the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival, please ignore it as IT IS A SCAM. This is a common occurrence with large conferences and trade shows in recent years. It is our policy to NEVER sell, rent, or share attendee contact information. No company is authorized to distribute or sell any email lists of Festival attendees. The Festival is not providing this list nor generating these messages. How did they get your email? This little lost lamb kid's mitten was turned in to the Lost & Found and would like to find it's mate. There is also a handmade shawlette someone might be missing, along with the usual random assortment of items -- reading glasses, etc. -- and, no surprise, a folding umbrella and a pair of rubber boots.
