Auction of Handspun Handwoven Shawls
Updated for 2024
Once a year, sheep breeders, shearers, spinners, and weavers from up and down the Mid-Atlantic region come together at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival to educate and entertain you with their skills in the Sheep-to-Shawl Competition. Up to five teams—consisting of one shearer, three spinners, and one weaver—will compete to shear a sheep, spin the fleece, and weave it into a shawl, all in just three hours! The end result is a special shawl that you can bid on to own for yourself or give to a special friend or family member. Come and share in the excitement of the competition on Sunday in the Main Exhibition Annex; shearing starts at 10:00 a.m. Stick around to watch the spinners and weavers create these unique garments before your very eyes from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., then go to the Show Ring at 3:00 p.m. and place your bid in the auction.
