About Us
Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em is an initiative of The Livestock Conservancy designed to promote the use of wool from rare sheep breeds on our Conservation Priority List. These breeds are all special with valuable qualities and unique fiber characteristics.
By joining this program and working with these wools fiber artists broaden their knowledge while helping to save 23 endangered breeds of sheep. Fiber Providers benefit from this program through increased breed awareness and increased fiber market.
In this program each fiber artist receives a “Passport” that they fill with “stamp” received from official fiber providers with their wool purchase. Then they make a project with this fiber, by processing, dyeing, spinning, knitting, crocheting, felting, or weaving, etc. Artists submit project photos to The Livestock Conservancy and receive incentives for completing 5, 10 and 15 projects.
Over 2,000 fiber artists are already participating in the Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em Initiative and are finding new favorite wools for making socks, mittens, shawls, etc. Recently we expanded the program by launching fiber challenges which air live on Facebook and are …
