Featured Breed for 2026: Scottish Blackface. Look for special Scottish Blackface prizes in the Fleece Show & Sale, Skein & Garment Competition, Fine Arts Competition, and Sheep Photo Competition, plus a dedicated Scottish Blackface Sheep Show on Saturday afternoon in the Show Ring.
New start time for the Fiber Arts Equipment Auction, now starting at noon on Saturday. Auction preview and buy-it-now from 8:30-11 a.m.
New location for the Sheep-to-Shawl Competition: Due to the increasing popularity of this competition and the growing number of spectators, the new venue will be under the HUGE Auction Tent with bleachers set up around the teams. Still Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. Teams, you will be seen!
Sheep Shearing Demonstrations will now be held in the Rabbit Barn. Note: This is a change from what was listed in the catalog.
The Make It With Wool Fashion Show and Junior Spinning Competition have new home: the Main Stage in the Pavilion Area. More than just a performance area, the Main Stage is a welcoming gathering place where the energy of the Festival comes to life. With ample seating in the area, we invite you to stop by, take a seat, and enjoy being part of the Festival experience.
The overall best skein in the Junior Spinning Competition will receive a Dove e-spinner generously donated by Daedalus Spinning Wheels!
New for 2026: Hands-On Learning in the Main Exhibition Annex. Try something new, no experience required. Stop in to explore interactive activities designed for all ages and skill levels. What you can try: spinning fiber into yarn, simple weaving techniques, felting basics, fiber textures and tools up close. While you are in the Annex, be sure to visit the Fiber Arts Demonstrations and talk with experienced fiber artist volunteers representing a wide variety of fibercrafts.
Family Activities have been renamed Intro to Fiber Arts, and have moved to the Main Exhibition Annex. These are the same great beginner classes that families and friends love. Explore a new fiber arts craft with enthusiastic and expert teachers. Pre-registration is required.
Free Shepherd Seminars this year include talks on Silvopasture, Forage Identification, Maintaining a Healthy Pasture Stand, and much more.
Fiber Arts Lecture: A Presentation by “The Weaver” TahNibaa Atlo’hii’giih Naataanii, Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H Hall.
The Sheep Shows will include a Junior Show for youths age 5 to 21.
Without a doubt the sheepdog herding demonstrations are one of the most popular and educational parts of the Festival. Nancy Cox Starkey, of Mt. Airy, MD, has been breeding and training working Border Collies for decades, and has been part of the Festival team providing those demos for some 30 years or so.
